Goodwood Festival of Speed Course Guide
The Hillclimb is the Festival of Speed’s principal attraction. Taking place throughout the weekend, this challenging white-knuckled 1.16-mile (1 860 mètres) course starts as a tree-lined run through the southern corner of the Goodwood Estate which then turns to sweep past the front of Goodwood House before climbing a steep and narrow Estate road bordered by flint walls and dense woodland groves towards Goodwood’s equine racecourse on top of the magnificent South Downs.
Sebastien Loeb Peugeot 208 T16 Pikes Peak hillclimb Run | Festival of Speed
When the rumour broke that nine-time World rally Champion Sebastien Loeb was coming to drive the Pikes Peak Peugeot at Festival of Speed, a palpable sense of excitement took over. It’s the car Loeb piloted to a new record at the infamous Pikes Peak hillclimb in Colorado last year, and suddenly Festival of Speed fans had a potential challenger to a record that once looked unbeatable.

Nine-time World Rally champion Sébastien Loeb will attempt to set a new hillclimb record at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed in Peugeot’s 208 T16 Pikes Peak car.
The Frenchman, whose main focus this season is with Citroen’s new World Touring Car Championship programme, drove the specially-designed monster to a new record in the Colarado Springs event last year.

Lord March and Sir Stirling Moss drive the Mercedes Benz W196 at Festival of Speed 2014
One of the best looking cars at Festival of Speed this year, the Mercedes Benz W196 Streamliner which, somewhat controversially, joined the Grand Prix grid (the domain, usually, of open-wheeled cars) during 1954 and ’55. This rebodied version of the open-wheeled W196 was just part of Mercedes’ domination of Grand Prix racing at the time; both versions of the car were consistently front-running, especially with Sir Stirling Moss and Juan Manuel Fangio at the wheel.
The W196 and it’s Streamliner counterpart were responsible for two of Juan Manuel Fangio’s five F1 Championship victories, crushing their opposition. Sir Stirling was part of the Mercedes-Benz team alongside Fangio in 1955, so the sight of the great man re-united with the car was truly something to behold.
The display was part of celebrations marking 120 years of Mercedes Benz
Festival of Speed – Formula 1 Cars at Goodwood
The Festival of Speed is the only event outside the Formula 1 calendar to attract significant attendance from the current F1 teams and drivers. Every year at least half-a-dozen of the current F1 teams attend the Festival, with many of the top present-season drivers also in attendance and in action over the weekend. The F1 Paddock promises as diverse a selection of Formula One cars as you’re likely to see anywhere on the planet.
