Porsche vient de présenter la 911 R à Genève en première mondiale. Cette appellation « R », n’est pas choisie par hasard, car l’histoire de la marque comprend une autre 911 R. Un modèle extrêmement recherché de nos jours, car produit à 23 exemplaires en 1967. Cette voiture, allégée et plus puissante que les 911 contemporaines, s’est distinguée à de multiples reprises, notamment en championnat du monde des rallyes et à la Targa Florio.

La 911 R reste épurée avec des pare-chocs de 911 GT3 sans toutefois aller reprendre les ailes percés ou bien l’aileron de la RS. Elle conserve les très belles jantes de sportive et gagne un capot arrière spécifique. Les voies larges et la double sortie d’échappement centrale répondent toujours présents.

Avec une masse de 1370 kg, cette 911 R se révèle plus légère de 50 kg que… la pourtant très légère 911 GT3 RS. Pour arriver à ce résultat, elle fait appel à un capot et des ailes en fibre de carbone ainsi qu’à un toit en magnésium. Les vitrages arrière et latéral sont, quant à eux, en polycarbonate allégé.

D’autres mesures pour limiter le poids ont encore été prises à l’instar de la réduction d’éléments insonorisant ou de la suppression des sièges arrière. L’air conditionné et le système HiFi ont été relégués au rang d’option. Ce qui donne un intérieur épuré, sportif et classic.

Moteur de la Porsche 911 R
sous le capot, c’est le légendaire flat-6 4.0L de 500 ch et 460 Nm, issue de la GT3 RS. On lui associe une nouvelle boite manuelle à 6 rapports avec des débattements courts, spécialement développée pour cette 911 R.
Le cœur de la bête est constitué par le moteur repris tel quel de la GT3 RS. A savoir, le flat-six atmosphérique de 4 litres de cylindrée délivre 500 chevaux à 8250 tr/min et un couple de 460 Nm à 6250 tr/min.
Châssis de la Porsche 911 R
Le châssis est proche de celui d’une GT3 RS avec les 4 roues directrices, le différentiel à glissement limité.
A cette mécanique d’orfèvre est accouplée une boîte manuelle à 6 rapports. Exclusivement. La transmission se fait uniquement sur les roues arrière. Un essieu assez sophistiqué par ailleurs, car doté d’un autobloquant mécanique, et auto-directionnel. Cette 911 R propulsée possède donc 4 roues directrices.
Le freinage fait appel à des disques en carbone céramique de grand diamètre avec 410 mm à l’avant et 390 mm à l’arrière.
Avec un poids réduit de 1 370 kg (plus léger que la GT3 RS), la 911R est particulièrement rapide avec un 0 à 100 km/h en 3,8 secondes et une vitesse maximale de 323 km/h.

Once upon a time there was a lightweight sports car that left a weighty impression. This car, namely the 911 R, was built in 1967 for use in motorsport. In a limited-edition run of just 23 units. Limited special model: With its new 911 R, Porsche is unveiling a puristic sports car in classical design at the 2016 Geneva International Motor Show.
Its 368 kW (500 hp) four-litre naturally aspirated flat engine and six-speed manual sports transmission places the 911 R firmly in the tradition of its historic role model: a road-homologated racing car from 1967. Produced as part of a limited production series, the 911 R (R for Racing) performed in rallies, in the Targa Florio and in world record runs. Like its legendary predecessor, the new 911 R relies on systematic lightweight construction, maximum performance and an unfiltered driving experience: this special limited-edition model of 991 units has an overall weight of 1,370 kilograms and is currently the lightest version of the 911.
From the exterior design, the 911 R gives a reserved impression. At first sight, the body resembles that of the Carrera. Merely the nose and rear body familiar from the 911 GT3 hint at the birthplace of the 911 R: namely the motorsport department in Flacht. In technical terms therefore, the 911 R has a lot to show under the bonnet: the drive technology comes from the GT3 RS. All the lightweight components of the body and the complete chassis originate from the 911 GT3. However, with a view to road use, the body manages without the fixed rear wing. Instead, a retractable rear spoiler, familiar from the Carrera models, and a rear underbody diffuser specific to R models provide the necessary downforce. Front and rear apron come from the 911 GT3.
The centrally positioned sports exhaust system consists of the lightweight construction material titanium. A redesigned spoiler lip is installed at the front. Porsche logos on the sides of the vehicle and continuous colour stripes in red or green over the entire mid-section of the vehicle show the relationship to its legendary predecessor.
With its overall weight of 1,370 kilograms, the 911 R undercuts the 911 GT3 RS by 50 kilograms. Bonnet and wings are made of carbon and the roof of magnesium. This reduces the centre of gravity for the vehicle. Rear windscreen and rear side windows consist of lightweight plastic. Additional factors are the reduced insulation in the interior and the omission of a rear bench seat. The optional air conditioning system and the radio including audio system also fell victim to the slimming cure.
With the high-revving six-cylinder naturally aspirated engine and manual sports transmission, Porsche is once again displaying its commitment to especially emotional high-performance sports cars. Developed in the motorsport workshop, the 911 R extends the spectrum of high-performance naturally aspirated engines alongside the motor racing models 911 GT3 and 911 GT3 RS.
At work in the rear of the 911 R is the six-cylinder flat engine with a displacement of four litres, familiar from the 911 GT3 RS. The racing engine delivers 500 hp at 8,500 rpm and generates 460 Nm at a speed of 6,250 rpm. From a standing start, the rear-engined car breaks through the 100 km/h barrier in 3.8 seconds. In keeping with the puristic character of the vehicle, the 911 with its lightweight design is available exclusively with a six-speed sports transmission. Short gearshift travel underlines the active driving experience. The forward thrust of the 911 R continues to a speed of 323 km/h.
